Foundations of Traditional Thai Massage  Level 1 -  "Pay What You Can" - October 20-22, 2023

    • Thai Massage is the ancient healing art of Thailand and combines the traditions of acupressure, deep muscle compression, assisted stretching, rocking/swaying, and meditative breath. It is the ancient healing art of Thailand, and the Northern style, Nuad Boran, is deeply rooted in the lineages of Yoga, Ayurveda and Buddhism. Pressure is focused along Sip Sen or Thai energy lines. Clients remain fully clothed and sessions take place on a massage mat on the floor.
    • Thai Massage is a fundamental piece of Traditional Thai Medicine, a system of methods and practices, such as herbal medicine, bodywork practices, and spiritual healing that is indigenous to the region currently known as Thailand.
    • This Level 1 course is limited to 8 students and is intended to introduce you to the foundations of traditional Thai massage, including history, systems and culture, practice, body mechanics, contraindications and safety. Further training beyond this introduction is recommended.
    • Students who complete the course will learn the protocol for a 1 hour session of both supine and prone Thai massage and will be expected to submit 3 hours of practicum evaluations to receive the Level 1 certification. 
    • Open to LMTs, yoga teachers, or anyone interested in sharing touch with family and friends.

    This course is approved for 27 CE’s through the NCBTMB.

She began her studies at the New England School of Thai Massage, but later spent time in Chiang Mai, Thailand studying under several Thai master teachers. Kimberly expanded her framework for this practice by becoming a certified AcroYoga International Teacher (yoga/acrobatics/Thai massage) in 2012 and has had the opportunity to share traditional Thai massage with hundreds of students around the US. Kimberly is the founder of the Woven Heart School of Thai Massage in Salt Lake City and was granted a Best of Utah Mind & Body Award in 2020 by City Weekly Magazine.   • This Level 2 course is limited to 8 students and is intended to introduce you to the foundations of traditional Thai massage, including history, systems and culture, practice, body mechanics, contraindications and safety. Further training beyond this introduction is recommended.
  • Students who complete the course will learn the protocol for a 1 hour session of both sidelying and seated Thai massage. Combined with the knowledge gained in Level 1 course, you will be able to confidently offer 90 min to 2 hour sessions. You will need to submit 3 hours of practicum evaluations to receive the Level 2 certification. 
  • Open to LMTs, yoga teachers, or anyone interested in sharing touch with family and friends. Some Thai massage experience is required, not necessarily through Woven Heart, though our Level 1 training will fully prepare you for this course. Familiarity with beginner Thai in supine and prone positions will be helpful.

Thai Foot Reflexology -  September 2023 

    • This comprehensive course delves into the ancient practice of Thai foot reflexology, a holistic treatment technique that aims to restore balance and harmony in the body through stimulation of reflex points on the feet. Originating from Thailand, this form of reflexology integrates elements of Chinese massage, Ayurveda, and traditional Thai medicine, with a unique emphasis on sen lines (energy lines) and marma points (vital points) to promote health and well-being.
    • This course provides students with a theoretical understanding and practical skills necessary to perform a full Thai foot reflexology session. Students will explore the anatomy and physiology of the foot, including the lower leg muscles, bones, and joints, and their correlation to the whole body. The course also delves into the principles of reflexology, specifically, the theory of sen lines and their relevance to the lower legs and feet.
    • Thai Massage is a fundamental piece of Traditional Thai Medicine, a system of methods and practices, such as herbal medicine, bodywork practices, and spiritual healing that is indigenous to the region currently known as Thailand.
    • This course is limited to 8 students 
    • Students who complete the course will learn the protocol for a 30 min to 1 hour session
    • Students will be expected to submit 3 hours of practicum evaluations to receive certification.
    • Open to LMTs, Foot Zoners, or anyone interested in sharing touch with family and friends.

    This course is pending approval for 16 CE’s through the NCBTMB.

Integrative Thai Massage:                              Advanced Techniques for Back Pain 2022 

  • In this course we will explore Thai Massage through multiple frameworks, to support people living with low back pain. This course will bring together Traditional Thai Massage with clinical decision making, and rehabilitation perspectives, participants will learn to work collaboratively with the nervous system, joints, and soft tissues to support healing from pain and injury.

  • Integrative Thai Massage respectfully brings together a complete traditional healing system with clinical decision making, communication skills, relational skills, neuroscience, and integrative rehabilitation frameworks for understanding how to provide Thai massage safely, effectively, and compassionately in many contexts.
  • This is an Approved Course for 20 CE’s through NCBTMB
  • This course is limited to 8 students
  • Prerequisites:  minimum 30 hours of prior Thai Massage training, general familiarity with Thai work in supine and prone positions.

Ben Smith, LMT is a massage therapist, educator, integrative health researcher, and member of the Utah Massage Therapy Board who is passionate about the integration of connection, heartfulness, and polyvagal theory into clinically oriented massage, bodywork, and mind-body therapies. His career and training have emphasized clinical orthopedic massage, oncology massage, integrative pain management, and trauma informed massage. Since graduating from Healing Mountain Massage School in 2014 he has been continuously involved in massage education ranging from teaching initial coursework for massage therapy students, to creating multiple NCBTMB approved courses including an oncology massage course for Huntsman Cancer Institute. He has been most impacted by his training with Nikki Rae Whitlock in Hendrickson Method (HM), The Restorative Practices Alliance with Gabriel Kram, and the Neuro Affective Relational Model (NARM) for trauma informed care.
